My Ideal Planner
I am a daily planner user. I was practially addicted to the FranklinCovey system for 10 years. Then when I was at a desk all day I like a Palm/sketchbook combo. Next I used a DayTimer calendar with 5 lined paper sections. I would have stuck with it, but they stopped producing it. Currently, my needs are met by lined notebooks small enough to fit in both my diaperbag and handbag.
I like these beautiful notebooks made by Cavallini — designed in San Francisco and produced in Italy. I like the designs and I especially like the elastic band to keep it closed — one more barrier between my toddler and my notes, plus it keeps my pen from falling out when I stash it between the pages. Available lots of places. 11 designs sold here (some on clearance!).

i have a great dayplanner from moleskine, no fancy outer cover, but high quality paper and a sleek black. We found a special edition this year that came in red as well.

I love planners and lists. My current system is a Moleskin/ Loose Paper combo.
Nothing gets actually written in the Moleskin unless it its a semi-thought out idea. I also sketch in it a lot. My daily task lists and calendars are on loose paper so that if they get ugly I can ditch them in the waste basket. Only the "big project lists" make it to the actual pages of my moleskin.
The end result is a beautiful sketchbook/idea book.
I'm glad to know about these. I gave up the Franklin planner for a blank notebook a few years ago and really prefer it, but I've had a hard time finding pretty notebooks.
Am am trying a pocket PC again. I love it because the alarm reminds me about places I am to be in time for me to look at it in horror, put on something presentable, yell instructions to the kids and get to whatever it is.
The reason I stopped using one before is that I couldn't jot notes, phone numbers and dates down on it. I can do that now I just need to get in the habit of using it for that and not looking for scraps of paper. And I wish it was prettier.

before kids and before palms, i used a day planner that i designed my own sheets for. i bought one of the special hole punchers that punched the 6-hole thingy and just dedicated a day to creating my new calendar each year. then i moved to a palm and we were inseparable. then i had twins and all scheduling flew out the window. then i started carrying a moleskine around. my current fave is a pack of three thin thin books. easy to keep in my back pocket or in my bag. and the back pages of the book are perfed so i can pull them out if necessary. because the books are thin, they don't feel as precious to me as a thicker moleskine, thus i'm willing to actually *use* it.
those cavallini books are gorgeous. if i got one, i'd probably never write in it, thus defeating the purpose.
I have used a 3 ring binder for bills, to do, ideas and notes for years. I would love to find a nice looking binder that you can remove and replace pages. Instead of my ugly 1" black binder with stickers my kids put on it!
