Wonder Pets

Wonder Pets!

Two year old Oscar's media diet is currently about 45% Wiggles, 5% Teletubbies and 50% WonderPets. Of the three, my far and away favorite is the WonderPets. I think it's charming. Go to the
Noggin WonderPets page. Scroll down to the TV and click on the caterpillar. Then, prepare yourself to hear the greatest lyrics ever:

They grow a real snug pupa.

A pupa? Supa-Dupa!

You can't beat that my friends. You can't beat that.

Bonus Noggin trivia: Ralph attended tennis camp last week with the daughter of the Voice of Moose A Moose.

Amen! I love the Wonder Pets. I try not to let my one year old watch much tv but when he was sick a few weeks ago I turned on noggin and experienced the Wonder Pets for the first time. I then spent two days trying find another episode at a time when i'd be home to watch! My favorite is the duck (?) with the lisp. Holy cow, that is some cuteness.

We just got Wonder Pets from Redbox (yep we still only have basic cable) and I love it. I've been saying, "This is sewious" all day to Abby and making her laugh. Love the Wonder Pets!

Oh, and to Marshmommy, my 3.5 year old would tell you that it's not a duck, it's a duckling. He's corrected me several times.

We're BIG fans of the Wonder Pets, too. Every time our phone rings, in fact, one of us is always singing: "The phone! The Phone is ringing. The phone! I'll be right there!"

Sorry for double commenting, but it just occurred to me that you live in New York. The production company behind The Wonder Pets, Little Airplane, now offers studio tours at their office in South Street Seaport.

The best part about the tour is that it includes a voice over session where your child can voice some of the characters in a recording session!

Check it out: http://www.littleairplane.com/

Yup, we love the Wonder Pets around these parts, too. Yet, I have to say The Backyardigans win out every time as far as entertaining the adults as well. I'm crushin' on Tyrone.

OMG, I LOVE the WonderPets! My daughter is now 7 years old, but we still sneak in a peek every now and then.

And, wow, talk about celebrities...Moose A. Moose? You can't get any better than that. Can you get me an autograph?

I still want to see a picture of the man who did Bear's voice from Bear in the Big Blue House. The closest I've seen is his hand in Oobie...if that is HIS hand!

Hi Gabby, here is another angle to consider before allowing your impressionable young ones to watch the Wonder Pets. A little about me. I am a stay home Mom to a 2 1/2yr old who is extremely advanced in her speech, vocabulary and communication skills with Wonder Pets definately NOT being a show in her daily diet. In fact, although I will admit she does like it, I do not allow her to watch it at all. There are many other shows she loves that offer educational entertainment. Such as Dora The Explorer, The Backyardigans, Blue's Clues, Franklin, Go Diego Go and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. These shows are all different, but every one of them use CORRECT speech, proper use of language pronunciation and communication skills. Both of which the Wonder Pets lacks. I was shocked when I first heard the Wonder Pets not pronouncing their words correctly. While "sewious" is Cute, it is not teaching our children at the most impressionable age the CORRECT way to pronounce a word. This is not a time where its important to be cute. I dont have a problem with the content of show or any of the characters except one. The duck, "Mimi". I almost feel ashamed for the writers of the show to think that being cute is more important than the verbal, proper pronunciation and communication skills of the children that are watching this show. The average age this is actually geared towards is during their prime years of us as parents trying to teach them how to speak CORRECTLY, this show does not enhance these abilities it makes them go backwards. I have seen this 1st hand with 3 DIFFERENT families (1 boy age 2, 2 girls, ages 28 months and 3) That should tell you everything. I welcome any and all feedback to this VERY different outlook that I am surprised but noone here has seem to have picked up on.

Julianasmom-

I see your point, but I think the show's aim in having a character who speaks like that is to be inclusive of children who do speak that way, not by choice. To show that just because you may have a speech issue does not mean you are less intelligent of capable of those who do not. If your child uses proper speech and is properly taught to do so, one character on a tv show is not going to set her back into baby talk.

my 2 1/2 yr old son has a bit of a lisp with his s's. I think Ming- Ming the duckling is a bit annoying. I agree that shows for such young kids should use proper pronunciation of words. I don't think 2-4 yr olds understand different types of speech to make fun of other kids or to try to fit in. I try hard to get my son to say his s's right now he's trying to say is r's as w's because Ming- Ming does.

Your criticism of the show is ridiculous. Your child should not be learning how to speak properly from television in the first place. As you stated, she is advanced in her communication. Advanced for a 2.5 year old means that in her acquisition of speech, she would be able to have enough cognition to understand you if you corrected her and explained why Ming-Ming speaks with a lisp. If you are spending the amount of quality time with your child that you should and limiting the tv they watch to a reasonable amount per week, no kid's show is going to influence them to speak incorrectly. I am not saying that they would not mimic the character occasionally but if they are spending the proper amount of time being spoken to and interacted with by you and other family members, they will have no problem distinguishing between proper speech and improper speech, as necessary. GO WONDER PETS!!!!!

I think that "julianasmom" is over analyzing a CARTOON. She keeps pointing out the lack of CORRECT speech and language, yet she misspelled "definitely" in her posting. The Wonder Pets show that teamwork can help kids overcome obstacles such as speech impediments.

ps. I also have a toddler with very advanced vocabulary, as well as a toddler with a speech delay. they BOTH love this show.

No, you're wrong. If you're letting your kids watch TV to be entertained AND learn at the same time, they should be learning correct English. Not some silly duck who can't pronounce her r's and w's.

After my 3 year old watched this terrible show, she said, "Daddy, I like dwagons!" I told her it was "Dragons" and she refused to say it correctly because Ming-Ming says it the other way.

This is ridiculous and she'll never watch that show again.

I agree this show should change the duck's speech. My children are allowed very little TV however in ONE sitting they were saying "Sewious" It is NOT cute for a child to have a speech problem. Why would a parent think that is "cute" in any way? If a child speaks like that they could quite possibly be labeled as special needs, tying up tax payers dollars for speech classes and taking spots from children who really are in need of help with their speech. Children with speech issues should be corrected not have their disabilities reinforced. Children should be taught to speak properly, lack of these skills could label them at an early age thus keeping them from advancing to their full potential in school. Why would a parent NOT want their child to have every opportunity and head start to do well? I'd question a mother's intentions of her child's welfare if she'd intentionally designed a hurdle for her child such as encouraging horrible speech habits.

I'm with the speech therapist in that usage of correct proununciation is key in a show for children. I don't want my Hailey growing up saying "thewious" and "dwagons". I wonder what the producer's intentions were? The show is otherwise cute and holds her attention and I'm not really worried about her pronunciation as we (her parents) speak clearly and concise...

I am a 44 year old man with no kids and I watch Wonder Pets every day. I love it. (Is it more mature to watch people who think they can sing being humiliated and cut from a show in tears?) Change Ming Mings speech? That is part of the charm. Leave her alone. If the speech experts out there want something to do, maybe they could go after telemarketers, I can't understand a thing most of them say. Leave the duckling alone. If it is so offensive, don't watch. 'This is serious."
