A Bedroom for Two Sisters
Just days before we left New York, I stopped at my friend Kathryn's house to snap some photos of her daughters' bedroom. I intended to post a little house tour on Cookie. And then (sadly) Cookie was no more. : (
Browsing through iPhoto this morning, I came across these pictures and remembered how darling this room is. Kathryn loves shopping. Kathryn loves all things vintage. And Kathryn is really good at shopping for all things vintage. Plus, she has a fantastic eye. In fact, I bet that Kathryn could open an etsy shop, sell off every item in this room and fill it up again from the goodies in her garage.
What about you, Dear Readers — do you have a friend like Kathryn? Someone that's really good at visual displays? Someone that can find the hidden gems at any estate sale? Man. I miss Kathryn.
P.S. — If you have similar talents to Kathryn, but live in Denver, please make friends with me — I need a shopping buddy who knows all the good sources.

what a fabulous bedroom...i adore the vintage hats.
That room is lovely! Every little girl should be so lucky :)
I love this bedroom! And I particularly love the built in dressers with shelves up top and the insanely clever mismatched nobs! Thanks so much for sharing!
oy. those built-in drawers with all the pulls...made me make my jealous face.
that's rare.
and grrr. i covet...
one of my favorite spots for vintage shopping is the main street area in downtown littleton. there are so many cute little shops. one of them hosts the paris market in the summer which is super fun to wander through. i'm not in the know on all things vintagey colorado...but it's one area i like. have a nice day!
My favorites:
1 the various colors and shapes of knobs
2 that incredible chandelier
Oh my how i adore this room!!!!
+ i'm still sad about cookie :(
Cute pics. Did you know that below your blog's title it still says you're in New York? It's easy to miss (in more ways than one, I'm sure!)
So, so lovely! I'm a vintage gal myself and also love to shop, but, sadly I live in Toronto, not Denver :)
Nicole - I love the hats too! And Kathryn's collection is amazing.
Artfulife - I think the same thing. Wouldn't you love this room full of pretty knick knacks?
Leslie & Karey - Here's where Kathryn is extra brilliant. That was just a blank wall between closet doors when they moved in. Kathryn had the built-in shelves and drawers made because she's a genius.
Katy - All the fabulous individual drawer pulls are from Anthropologie. No idea on the gorgeous chandelier.
Meghan - I think I need to spend a day checking out downtown Littleton. Thanks for the tip.
Marykaye - The magazine losses of the last year still have me reeling.
Tricia - Can you believe I haven't updated that yet? Aaaack! Adding to my list...
I don't know much about Denver's good vintage shop's, but I'm excited to hear about Littleton's Main Street, and any others that are recommended to you! I would love to check out some estate sales but I never know where to find about about them.
Littleton's main street. Added to my list. Broadway (by Fancy Tiger) has a ton of vintage/thrift stores and some really cute boutiques. Boulder has a great antique store where we found some old letterpress letters. It's on the main shopping street (pearl??) but farther west towards the mountains.
There's always a ton of estate sales in the area that we live in which is capital hill, 6th ave (think east cherry creek and by Rose medical). But those are just listed on signs. Might be worth it to drive down Colorado Blvd over here sometime to see if and when some estate sales are.
Good luck!
Adorable! How clever to use the vintage postcards as a garland... great way to display a collection too. I love seeing pictures of neat kids rooms!
Lovely! I love the old hamper and also the built ins with different knobs on each door.
Beautiful! I love all of the muted colors. I'm sure a lot of thought went into the design but it looks effortless!
those chairs! the chandelier! how amazing...
so darling!! i love everything vintage.
Delicious! I want that room! My husband may disagree though... :(
What a sweet room. Any little girl would adore it.
Side note, I must be out of the loop, but Cookie is no longer??? When do this happen? I am so bummed...
Gorgeous!
The sweet little pink furry giraffe is the very same one I bought for my very first niece the day before I got to meet her for the first time. I'd been out of town and missed her birth, and I was devastated. I was shopping around Anthropologie after work and saw that giraffe and just knew I had to buy it for her…it was a bit pricey, but I knew she’d love it. I even told the sales person that I was buying it for my new niece, and I remember I could not wait to get home to meet her and present her with her new special stuffed animal.
Isabelle just turned a year old last week, and “Giraffey” has been her constant companion since she was only a few months old. Even before I would have thought she’d know the difference between that giraffe and any other stuffed animal, she loved him and could not be left at day care without him. It is hilarious to look through snapshots of her and play a sort of “Where’s Waldo” type game—Giraffey appears in nearly every picture, if you are looking carefully enough. She would hold him every time she took a bottle, petting his soft fur, dropping his heavy feet to bump her in the head over and over again. Around the 9th month of their companionship, I even purchased a replacement Giraffey because Giraffey I had seen better days, and was unbearably stinky most of the time. I assumed she’d shun the replacement, but she loves him just as much.
Anyhow…such a sweet room, and made me think of my sweet, beautiful niece and her best friend, Giraffey!
You also should pop into Pome on Old South Gaylord St (1071 OSG St). Check the website for some photos that are representative of their mdse (pomedenver.com). She has a mix of old and new and seems to have a knack for putting it all together.
I have that little pink chair! I found it in the basement of the first place we lived when we were married.
What a lovely room. It underscores what I've been toying with for three years: moving my husband and self out of our gigantic-what-a-waste-of-space master bedroom into a certainly-large-enough regular bedroom, and creating a Mary Poppins-esque nursery (in the larger sense: bedroom/playroom combo) for our two daughters. If I could only convince my husband...
My sister used to have that sunshiney pillow. Makes me smile.
So charming. Just when I thought I was done with me daughter's room, you have given me more ideas. I particularly built-ins and the tall, green bookshelf.
That is my Auntie!!! Yay. She is a fabulous decorator and I fully intend on having her do my house some day.
Gabby, you are so kind! I was surprised to see the pictures up today. This room makes me happy to be in. I am a pretty sentimental person, and I hope that my girls share some fun memories with each other, like I did with my sisters! I can't remember the company that makes the chandelier, but I've seen similar ones out there. It was the splurge. The bedding was a combination of TJMaxx and hand-me-down quilts from a friend. The rug was bartered in exchange for babysitting from another friend who didn't need it. When we went to pick out knobs for the drawers, we couldn't decide, so we just got all different ones, and it turned out great! Everything else was found at estate and garage sales, and lugged around until they found their current home. We'll keep this arrangement as long as the girls will put up with it! Thanks, I miss you too!Love you! Kathryn Carmona
That is so beautiful! I would love to see what she (or anyone talented in all things vintage) would do for two brothers. I'm having our second son in June, and eventually they will be sharing a room. I would love to do something different to decorate, but still be boyish at the same time!
Beautiful! I'm also watching closely for Denver area shopping suggestions. We're north but I'm always up for a trip. My list is started!

Oh my gosh! I love this room, so girly and whimsical. I am so in love with that weathered looking bookcase. I have been struggling with how to keep my kids' bookcases looking neat and cute yet still hold a lot of books. I like how this one is arranged and styled. And that garland is so cute. Yuumm, love it all. Will have to bookmark it in my inspiration files for my kids' rooms.
Wow-- I LOVE this room!!
I love my boys, but this makes me wish I had girls too!
oh, thank you!!!
i'm in the middle of redecorating my girls' bedroom and this was the perfect inspiration!!!
ohhh the sweetest room ever! i also love all things vintage!!!
Oh! I have a little girl who is ALMOST ready to move out of the crib and into a big girl room. Mostly we are deciding when the crib might best be used by a future sibling. Thanks DESIGN MOM, for adding to the yearning for a little sister for my girl that has more to do with cuteness than family budgets and available sick leave days.
So beautiful! What a treat to see. That vintage pink gets me every time.
Beautiful, beautiful! I am fortunate to know people like that in Minneapolis, Phoenix, and Boise. Not Denver, though!
You would really like Talulah Jones on 17th http://www.talulahonline.com/
I live down the street and I think it is a neighborhood treasure! Plus, all the ladies there are really welcoming and love to chat!
The bedroom was so fabulous. I will copy some of your interior design for my 3 daughters.
So glad I checked back here. There's a few places I want to go in Denver now... once it stops snowing!
Yay for Kathryn! Love her home, so fun to see the pics on here:) xoxoj
