Modern Homes in Denver

My friend Enoch send me links to some modern neighborhoods in the Denver/Boulder area. They have me so inspired! From what I can tell, there are 3 main districts that are completely filled with these mid-century homes — Arapahoe Acres, Krisana Park and Lynwood Park — and it looks like these neighborhoods have been kept up immaculately. Very impressive. A well-preserved, historic neighborhood makes my heart go pitty-pat.

You can see lots more photos on the ModMidMod blog. And you can find out more info on these neighborhoods here and here. Also. If you know anyone renting out one of these beauties, please let me know.

Just out of curiosity, do these homes appeal to you? I'd say that 10 years ago, they wouldn't have appealed to me at all. And on the East Coast, they still wouldn't fit in very well with the hundred year old neighborhoods. But I do love their look in Denver. What do you think? All photos by Tom Lundin.

There are a lot of these in North Park Hill too. Friends of mine live in one and the surrounding block is littered with them. Haven't seen any for rent signs lately but there are lots. Park Hills are all seemingly under renovation right now too.

I have a friend that lives in Arapahoe Acres. It's a wonderful community with great pride in their beautiful homes. Full of very artistic, creative people too.

I heart these styles of homes. Fill it with Eames furniture and your fave Emeco chairs (unless you just wanna drop those off at my house on your way out there) ... what a winning combination!

I'm crazy for Mid-Century Modern homes...I even have a blog about them.

Arapahoe Acres and Arapahoe Hills in Denver are AMAZING! The preservationist spirit is really alive in those neighborhoods.

No matter how beautiful, never get a house with a flat roof. Unless you live where there is no rain or snow, it will inevitably leak.

You might also check out old town Littleton, which is south of Denver.

And then check out Aberdeen Village in Littleton. Another nice retro historic top notch neighborhood with a wonderful park that includes a lake, living history museum, art museum and library and athletic fields. All within walking distance of historic downtown Littleton!

Those neighborhoods are so great! They are however, a hike from anything (we considered moving there a while back). If you want to be closer (walkable) to fun things ... think about the Highlands area (NOT HIGHLANDS RANCH!), or LoHi in Denver -- both are close to: http://www.highlands-square.com and downtown! If you want more info, feel free to email. My husband and I are both designers and have lived in Denver for 12 years, with an amazing 6 month-old. There are so many great things to do with kids here in the city. Here's a great local design site too: http://www.thedenveregotist.com/. You are going to love it here! I moved here 12 years ago, thinking that I would stay for a few years, and couldn't imagine living anywhere else!

I wouldn't have considered such modern homes 5+ years ago either, but now we hope to be in one ourselves someday.

Here in Arizona, we have some great modern neighborhoods as well. You're right, they are well fitting out west here - wide open spaces, rolling landscapes. Can't wait to see what you end up in!

I could move into any one of them today. Love modern mid-century. Good luck with the move. My sis moved to Aurora last summer and they love it!

Cool houses! I can't imagine owning a house at all (though my husband says we will someday) but I wouldn't mind something these!

I second the advice not to get a house with a flat roof in an area where it snows.

I bet they're really spacious and light in the inside. I think with all the cool mid-cent mod trend going on that you'd make them great!

I spent a LOT of time this past summer driving those areas while my husband was on internship. By far my fav is the Arapahoe Acres ones since it's a whole perfectly preserved neighborhood. I read in Dwell that it is the only one of it's kind on the historical registry making me of course want to live there even more.

Before my Arapahoe Acres kick I was craving Highlands but it doesn't fit our families needs.

Arapahoe Acres is near(driving distance though) Pirates Cove water park which is next to my toddler and I's fav park last summer which has a train ride and petting zoo and stream to wade in.

Sadly my husband signed on w/ a Kansas City company instead of Denver. So now on the hunt for something similar in KC. But we LOVED it in Denver and have all intentions on ending up there sooner rather than never. :)

Hi-I have been a loyal reader for a few months now and also a fellow Denver area resident! Although I do live out in the 'burbs...Highlands Ranch to be exact-probably not your style (one poster said NOT HIGHLANDS RANCH!!!!) :) However-all in all, any area you choose...Denver is a great place to live and raise a family. We moved here from Florida 11 years ago, had 2 kids, and never plan to leave. It is fantastic here. Weather is great too. Get excited--you will love it!

Highlands Ranch is a great neighborhood too ... didn't mean anything negative in my post! ; ) Just wanted to clarify what "Highlands" I was talking about. I can't think of one bad thing to say about any neighborhood in Denver. Each one has their own perks. Although I am a little partial to Highlands, since it is so walkable to everything!

That last house is just down the street from us. If you'd like to see some interriors head to my blog http://blog.stacieannsmith.com and click on the Arapaho Acres feed. There are a few for sale but none for rent.
Steph from Denver is right, not too much to walk to. If you want to keep the NYC vibe, as close as you can get in CO, check out Platt Park or S Gaylord. If we could do it again, and had an extra $100,000, we would be in either of those places.
Good luck!
Stacie

It is truly a dream of mine to live in a home like one of these. I LOVE the look of modern homes, their openess, their clean lines and clean vibe. I wish they weren't so hard to find or expensive to build.

Don't base your neighborhood decision on a style of house- you need good schools with all of your kids! Cherry Creek Schools can't be beat! Don't even think about any other option!

See craigslist if you're interested in an Arapahoe Acres rental. The "Middlebrook House", one of the neighborhood's bigger homes, and, I imagine you'd think a beaut, is currently available for rent. Questions? Call Anina 303-433-7895 evenings, 720-232-6285days for more information.
