Toyota Design Seminar

Laguna Beach is my new favorite place. And that's no doubt due in large part to the fact that I'm staying at a gorgeous resort (gorgeous!!) with a path that sends me straight to the sand and a view of the ocean from my room.

Today we (me and a handful of other design focused bloggers and media) get to spend the day at Calty — which is the main Toyota design center for the three Toyota brands: Toyota, Scion and Lexus. We're going to get schooled about Toyota's automobile design process from sketches through final product. Can't wait.

From what I hear, this is the first time Toyota has really opened up their design facility. Rumor has it, we even get to attempt our own clay models. Which has me imagining this day as like the best school field trip ever.

Whatever we do, I'm sure it will be fabulous, because we've been treated grandly since arrival. Last night after dinner, I arrived back at my room (did I mention it was gorgeous?) to find this beautiful book waiting for me. See? Grandly.

Thank you, Toyota!

P.S. — This afternoon, after the Design Seminar, I've been told I really must make a visit to Fashion Island to see some sort of clothing store/furniture store/restaurant. Maybe I will see you there?

I am so jealous of all the cool things you get to do. Then again, I guess that's what happens when you're super talented!

I was hoping you could tell me how you make your photo collage's with the white separator in between photos. What software are you using?

Maybe someday I'll get to live that kind of life. For now, I'll live vicariously through you. Enjoy.

Fashion Island! Well then, you'll have to hit up American Rag for all sorts of vintage (and newer) goodies. Sorry the weather is gross for your So. Cal visit! (You can console yourself with some gelatto from Tutto Amore after shopping (247 Broadway St. Laguna Beach)

My husband is a radiologist at a hospital in Seattle that has been collaborating with Toyota for years to improve their process. Interesting that different fields are examining Toyota's model!

Fashion Island! Ahhhh...I love it. I wish you would see me there!

I have stayed at Montage - it was amazing! The food! The beach! The tub! Wow. (And you get to be there for a supercool design event, rather than an awkward attempt at a romantic weekend with a guy friend. I promise, yours is waaaaaaaay better!)

It sounds like you are having a wonderful time! Cannot wait for the full Toyota-rriffic report!

Wow... sounds really nice. I used to live minutes from Fashion Island, and now that I am living in Maryland I miss it a lot! The view, the outdoor shopping, the restaurants, and the fountains are all great. Roger's Gardens across the street is a fun place to explore, too. Soak up some of that Pacific Ocean air for me, please!

We used to live there and ah yes, it is fabulous. Hope you get time to stroll around the town a bit. Zinc Cafe's oatmeal is delish!

You lucky, lucky girl! The grounds of the Montage are amazing so I can only imagine how fantastic it is inside! We visited Laguna Beach last year and as we were walking to the restaurant by the pool to enjoy lunch (it's open to the public) I snapped a few pictures of the view and then turned to take a few of the hotel itself (I'm a hotel junkie!) Out of nowhere a security guy asked what I was taking pictures of. I stammered something (can't now remember what) and he quite curtly told me that I wasn't allowed to take pictures of the building. I've never been so embarrassed in my life!

I second that Zinc"s ( in Laguna) is a must, also Roger's Gardens if you have the time.
Hope you have a good time on this side of the coast. I hope we get to hear about your trip to Fashion Island.

Oh how I would adore seeing you at Fashion Island at such a curious place but alas...I have three grandbabies with me today and you my dear are on a grown-up holiday!!
Have a wonderful time and I cannot wait to read more about your adventure. I'm just over the mountain from you in the Temecula Valley. Where in So Cal were you from?

I too am from Temecula Valley on the other side of the mountains. Unfortunately that's quite a drive. Have fun with Toyota. They'll take care of you like no other. My husband has been with Toyota for 21 years. Everything they do is top notch. "I love what you do for me, Toyota." Enjoy!

You don't know me but as soon as you said beautiful resort in Laguna Beach I knew it was the Montage. I so love that hotel but have yet to stay in it. At least my husband had his company Christmas party there!
