Meetup This Summer?
So we bought our plane tickets yesterday. Seven plane tickets. We had to buy them in two batches. Because Travelocity won't let you place an order for more than 6 at a time. Which is their way of telling me I have too many kids.
Figuring out our flights for the summer took all sorts of strategy sessions on the part of Ben Blair and myself. This is the how it finally went down.
The whole family flies from New York to Las Vegas. We rent a van, load up Ben and the kids and send them off to St. George (about an hour or so away) to hang out with the cousins. Then. I get back on a plane in Las Vegas and continue on to San Francisco for the big blog conference. Then. A few days later. I fly from San Francisco to Salt Lake City. Where Ben Blair will meet me with the kids and we'll hang out with more cousins in Logan, SLC, Provo and Moab. Then. We'll eventually make our way back to St. George. And fly home from Las Vegas. This configuration involves no less than three airlines. And I'm not kidding even a little bit about the strategy sessions that it took to put this trip together. But all the effort was so worth it. We can't wait!
I'm thinking it would be lovely to have some sort of blog-tastic Meetup while I'm in Utah. Maybe at a yummy restaurant? Or a great park? I'm thinking Friday, July 25th in Salt Lake. Would that work for you? Let me know. Because if you're in the area, I'd love to meet you!

Impressive work, getting that all together. And that's just PLANNING the trip--not actually going on it!
Name the "blog spot" in SLC. It will be fun to see cyber friends.

Oooh, SLC? You're finally going to be in my neighborhood. I have a feeling it will be a little bit like when Miley Cyrus comes to town; thousands of desperate people packed into a small venue, dying to get just a glimpse! I think I'll be there, wherever "there" is, because you're way cooler than Miley ever was.
I'm so sad. I'm from Logan and will be there visiting my family in August. I missed you by this much ||.

as a longtime lurker, i have to say I love your blog. and I'm so sad that we're leaving for home on the 24th, so I will just barely miss your bloggie meetup! (and honestly, who leaves utah on pioneer day...)

That's pretty impressive that you were able to work that all out. I wish I could meet up with you in SLC at the end of July but I will be in NYC probably about to have a baby. Next time. Although my brother and his family live in St. George so perhaps one day we will run into each other there. I also just learned that you know my inlaws - Kevin and Khaliel Kelly. Small world.
Ohh, you are going to BlogHer. I was dreaming of winning their tagline contest and zipping off for some kid-less time. Are you speaking? Maybe you should have a meetup here in Whistler? oh darn...just a few days after I leave from my Utah vacation! but ya know, boulder is just over the mountains and it is the smartest city in the country right now...a good for for Dr. Blair I think! And you can buy a house here! Boulder is totally the new NYC.

I'm curious about what you do with your kids on the plane rides--what do you bring to make the trip bearable? I could use more than a few tips :)
I second that question to what you do with kids on planes. I'm sad I'll miss your gathering in SLC because I'll be in Hawaii with the family until the 29th. So, I could REALLY use any tips for entertaining kids on LOOONG flights!

Oh, I would love to meet you. We will be in Utah that week, the first half in SLC and the second half in Cedar city so I will miss a meet up in SLC by a few days:(

I was just in Utah a week ago and as I would much like to meet you, I won't be going back for awhile.
Although, I did go to a great new cupcake cafe in SLC. It is called So Cupcake. You should try an Apple-Maple cupcake... yummy!
Since I too am excited for a get-together, I'll suggest a place and time: How about the Cedars of Lebanon restaurant: 152 E. 200 S. in Salt Lake. At two. Good middle-eastern food, decent price, interesting decor (though I'm not sure it's quite up to Design Mom par) and right in the downtown area, so accessible by public transit. 2:00 so that gives all these ladies plenty of time to find a parking spot.
I would love to meet up for a lunch. We are in "The Valley"-Provo-Just let me know the time and place. Your trip sounds like fun and somewhat like what we are doing but ours involves your lovely love Eastern side of the U.S. and NY and VT
