Daniels Woodland — by Guest Mom Rochelle Greayer
This treehouse was built by a company called Daniels Woodland in California. They are, I think, one of the only companies that use recycled wood. They source tree trunks from areas throughout the central coast of California and then they hollow them out for use as the base. If you live on the opposite side of the country the thing is built in pieces and shipped to you arriving on a semi truck.
This one is in CT and was designed for one of our clients. We were able to pick from many options to personalize and it even matches the colors of the main house. Installing one of these is no small feat (NOT a DIY job), and you may even have to have planning permission (as we did) to put it together. Some designers may be able to pass along a discount on these so it is worth it to get help with the whole project.
If you are thinking about doing this…I would highly recommend Rubber Crumbles (seen here in black) as a base. They provide so much better cushioning should someone fall and are immensely cleaner than sand or bark mulch. Plus, because it is recycled and it doesn’t track you save in the long run because you don’t have to keep refreshing it.

Adorable! What a fun place to hide out in...
I love this idea. Just love it. I am inspired by the ideas you are bringing to the table in just the few posts you've written. Bringing up the notion that you can have an attractive yard AND entertain children is just what I need to hear. Now...what to do with the Little Tikes play structure my hubby brought home from Home Depot! By the way, I'm looking forward to your other posts. This is an area of "design" that is often overlooked. It's nice to know our yards can be an extension of our style as well. Thanks!
Can you tell me how it is holding up? We bought a tree house recently from them and it arrived cracked, with water damage and an unsealed roof. Its literally falling apart. It has to be removed from our job site now and we spent $25,695 on it plus $5,000 shipping it from California.
John Daniels first said he'd come out and fix it and he admitted it was built wrong and shouldn't have left his shop that way---but when I wouldn't spend another $5,000 flying him and another guy out, paying for their hotel and shipping out their tools he said he's too busy with other jobs right now to fix this. Our neighborhood wants it out. Its rotting in pieces on the construction site. They won't refund our money. Beware of using them in the future. This is so sad. My kids are devastated.
