Ask Design Mom — Flowergirl Dresses

Ask Design Mom Question:

Hi Gabrielle. My daughter will be the flowergirl in my sister's wedding on 10/10/10 here in Southern California. (She is 5 years old.) We are looking for unique flowergirl dresses for the outdoor event. Any clothing company recommendations? We are thinking non-white for the little ones in the wedding. Thanks. Stephanie

Design Mom Answer:
Thanks for the question, Stephanie! What a memorable date for a wedding. Love it. My first thought is to send you to Crewcuts. It's a super-dependable source for wedding-appropriate kid stuff. Check their
everyday dresses and their wedding/party dresses.

But there are also a million other great sources. Depending on how formal the wedding will be, you might like the offerings at Dagmar Daley, Ses Petites Mains or this Hanji dress from Tea Collection.

What about you, Dear Readers? Where do you shop for wedding clothes for little kids?

I have to recommend Pegeen.com

Okay, I am biased but we offer over 200 colors of silk in any combination they want - so anything goes. Pegeen.com sells online now only instead of the 1900 stores we used to sell to, so pricing is factory direct! if they have any questions, one of our designers are on staff until 11pm.

My sister is getting married in a month, and we looked all over for simple pink frilly dresses for a low cost- and we went with Costco easter dresses. They even had sleeves- a must have for a March wedding.

We're attending a wedding this spring and our daughter is wearing a "Vintage Dress" from Mini Boden. She's wearing the green with the pink ribbon trim. Super cute.
Here it is: http://www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Girls-Dresses/33115/Girls-Vintage-Dress.html

I exhausted this topic when I got married last year! We decided on these sweet pixie dresses from Pip-squeak Chapeau:

They were like little angels floating in these sweet frocks!

Shabby Apple has some cute, colorful (more casual) dresses. My flower girl's dress (made from Amy Butler fabrics) became the inspiration for a LOT of design elements of my wedding.

I went to department stores around Easter. I was able to get relatively inexpensive dresses in the color I was looking for and they were perfect!

I got my flower girl's dress from FlowerGirlDressForLess.com. It was ivory with green polka dots, and we made a green sash to match the maids.

And for ringbearers definitely buy the tux - check ebay. You should be able to find something for $20-30 instead of renting for $60+.

I love the dresses on www.whittengrey.com. They are organic and beautiful, and as if that isn't engough they have the same sort of premise as Tom's Shoes, Buy-one, give-one. AND the you get to pick the dress you give.

My sister in law discovered www.pinkprincess.com for the flower girl dresses for her wedding. They're pretty traditional (white, poofy), but WAY cheaper than anything we found in the stores, plus they do free shipping if the size isn't quite right (which we needed - worked like a charm).

I love the dresses you picked. I also want to recommend Flora and Henri. They carry the most simple, modern yet beautiful dresses. My son wore some wore f&h in my sister's weeding and his outfit was a smashing success.
