A Few Things

-A list of
pretty blogs from Lisa Congdon. So many are new-to me.

-Hey typography junkies. Take
this quiz from Pentagram to find out what type you are. I'm Van Doesburg.

-I think I want to rent this Swedish cottage.

-Have you ever seen
broccoli romanesco? It looks like something from the ocean. I wonder what it taste likes?

-This is fun, a new
award especially to celebrate the handmade. Find out about the Poppies here.

-A round up of
the lovliest baking cups. I ran out of cupcake liners last weekend. Time to pick out something colorful and bright to get us through till spring.

-Painting the snow. Thinking ahead to Valentine's Day, wouldn't it be cute to leave a message for your honey in the snow?

-Shortbread cookies are my very favorite cookies. Look how cute these button versions are? Let's have a baby shower and serve these darling bites. You're invited.

-Oh my goodness. This perfume packaging made me light up. I wonder if it smells as wonderful as it looks.

-Did you miss the annual No Pants Subway Ride? Happy photos.

-Is it really possible that Altitude Design Summit is happening next week? I have a mani/pedi scheduled for Monday to prepare. It's all in the details. (Last I heard, Alt Summit was almost sold out. Yikes! Grab your tickets while you can.)

-This tweet gave me goosebumps yesterday. When something awful happens, it is always such a comfort to be able to take positive action in response. What are the best ideas you've seen regarding aid to Haiti?

I hope you have a marvelous weekend. Thank you for reading and for your clever comments. Hearing from you makes me happy.

I can't wait for ALT. I'm thinking I need to get a tan, pedicure, manicure, hair cut, hair color, new wardrobe and new blog design for this whole thing. It's going to be perfect!

I was blown away to hear that American Airlines is offering free flights to Haiti for nurses and doctors. way to help out AA!

Lynn, isn't it great that the supply of beautiful blogs never seems to run out?

Melissa, so looking forward to seeing you (and your stylish ensembles) at Alt Summit. And thanks for telling us about American Airlines. I hadn't heard that. Very cool.

I heard that the USPS will ship anything to Haiti for free (as long as its under 50 pounds.) They really need shoes and clothes.

I feel slightly tricked. I follow the link to the cute, new blogs and I see the f-word first thing.

I prefer sites that spare me that sort of stuff--like yours. :| :)

My friend, Kristina @ Pulsipher Predilictions has a great post about helping Haiti. When we all pull together, we *can* make a difference. So many need our help.

Lovely links and post!

Partners in Health, is an organization with a long presence in Haiti supplying medical care. Tracy Kidder wrote about Dr. Paul Farmer who started the organization, in his book Mountains Beyond Mountains, which I really think everyone should read. They are a great organization to give to. You can also give to the effort through the LDS church. if you go to and then go to the newsroom page there are several articles regarding the church's response to the disaster (some aid has been sent, more is on its way, and the church is sending doctors and nurses). If you read the full article, there is a link to LDS Philanthropies site where you can make a donation over the web.

This is the first time I've commented, I think. I enjoy your blog!

Oh, and I meant to paste in a link to my sister's blog where she posts about Haiti, her and her huband's love for the place, and an appeal to help out.

Hello Anonymous-es - So sorry to shock you unexpectedly. I wasn't sure what you were referring to, so I went to the link and had to laugh — I hadn't even noticed that poster.

Do you suppose all those years in New York have made me immune to the f-word (because it is used all. the. time. in even the most everyday conversations)? Too funny.

romanesca is divine! the texture of cauliflower, the flavor of really mild broccoli and those spiraling flowerettes? it's my favorite vegetable - roast it or steam saute it with some garlic and shallots. you'll never go back to plain broccoli again ~
