How To: Everyday Eye Makeup — By Guest Mom Allison Czarnecki
I'm not implying for one second that any of you don't know how to apply makeup. I just happen to live and breathe all things beauty, and if someone had shown me how to do this several years ago it would have saved me hours in front of the mirror. But that's half the fun right? I'm going to show you how to do two looks: everyday and a smoky eye. The top pic shows you everything I use to create the magic.
I'm a MAC makeup devotee. I still have MAC eyeshadow pots from college; they're really high quality and they last forever. If you don't know what colors look good on you, book a make-up session at your local makeup counter {it's free} or enlist the help of a stylish friend to give you some ideas.
Honestly, makeup is a little bit addictive. I can't remember a time my toenails weren't painted {really truly} and it's a bad day if I'm not wearing at least lip gloss. I had samples of Avon lipstick in my underwear in Kindergarten and I'm always trying to make-over at least one of my girlfriends. It's a sickness.
Here is what I do for everyday makeup:
Wasn't that easy? Takes me 5 minutes max and I look so much more polished when I'm done. Next up: smokey eyes.

I'm getting line for my makeover.
allison, i'm beginning to believe we are kindred spirits who met at sephora in the pre-existence. i too am complete and total cosmetics junkie. like to the point where if sephora offers me 3 teeny tiny lip glosses as a birthday gift, i'll spend $50 in stuff i don't need just to get those little tubes of sparkly goodness. that by the way, actually happened just last month....true story.
glad to know i'm not the only one spending wads of cash on every beauty item on the planet.
btw: MAC is also my all-time fav. i just purchased the empty 15 pot eyeshadow palette, found a video on youtube on how to de-pot your eyeshadows and viola! now i have all my beautification in one pretty place!
Allison, I need you to do my makeup. Seriously!
Just discovered e.l.f. Great value, ingenious products. The eyeliner sealer (studio line) is incredible.
I also have that Sonya Kashuk brush set from Target. Love it. Quite comparable - in a Target-sort-of-way - to the extra spendy ones at Sephora.
Next I need a tutorial on applying concealer so I don't look all cake like. And what eyeshadow primer do you use? I've never used it.
Seriously...I love make-up, but I don't do it well.
If you ever want a project I am all up for a GIANT makeover. You can get sponsors and I'll be your complete guinea pig. Deal?
Hey...so, uh, next time you're walking by my house, why don't you stop and give me a little makeover? (I'm being totally serious. I'll cook for you. I'll bake for you. I'll do you laundry. I want to look sexxxy like that!)
wish I lived close to you! how do you know which brushes to use where??
You are a riot. I love these tuts because it is so entertaining! Thanks for the fun.
KJ,
Name the place and time babe. I'll bring the equipment. Er, makeup.
Jill,
Oh, isn't that a happy thought? Sephora in heaven? You know I always get sucked in by the cheap promotional stuff. They just package it so nicely....
Katie,
Done and done.
Kyran,
I also love the liquid eyeliner pen, I can't mess up with that stuff! And you've gotta love how cheap e.l.f. is; makeup for the masses!
MMW,
The white ones are all e.l.f. actually, and I LOVE them!
Kari,
Concealer is all about what brushes you use. You're not smearing, just artistically touching up. Think of it as photoshop with actual brushes. For the eyeshadow in these photos I used e.l.f's line, but MAC also makes some amazing primer. It makes all the difference in whether or not your eyeshadow stays put.
Mama,
You + Me in a hotel room NYC 2010? Makeover central.
Cafe Johnsonia,
Seriously, please let me make you over? Project! {rubbing hands together with glee}
Missy,
Usually the brushes have what you're supposed to use them for printed on the side of the brush. Like *crease brush* or *concealer brush*.
We would so be make-up BFF's. Ditto on everything you said. Why is it so addictive? Seriously I about laughed when you said you are always trying to make people over. I am the same way.... It's like it gives you a high. Plus I feel like everyone is beautiful- you just need to learn how to bring out your God given beauty. I mean seriously who doesn't like to feel pretty :) I also feel lucky that my daughter is a dance because then I get to do hers (as well as everyone else at their performances)
Of course i never turn down someone else asking me to do their daughters make-up :)

cyndi,
I know, it's like a drug really. And everyone is so much happier when their makeup is done and they're foxy. It's win-win.
What is e.l.f. makeup and where do you buy it? I've never heard of it.
Katina,
e.l.f. stands for: eyes, lips, face. it's a store online {http://www.eyeslipsface.com/} go fill up your cart with really inexpensive makeup!
thank you for this wonderful tutorial. i have lots to buy. i use the same tan eyeshadow every single day... ick. i need primer. i never even knew it existed. thanks so much!
Emily,
It's so easy to get stuck in a rut, we all do it. And primer? Will save your life for long wear eyeshadow.
Lorie,
Thank you!
