Inauguration Party
The lovely Isabel Kallman of Alpha Mom threw an Inauguration-Watching-Party this morning. I was planning to watch anyway (who wasn't?), but it was way more fun to watch with lots of interesting people. Hooray that the transfer of power happens without the threat of civil war breaking out. I heart America.
Isabel did things up right with lots of red, white and blue. And to commemorate the patriotic day, she even signed her citizenship papers. Yay Isabel! Now you get to vote!!
Quaker Oats sponsored the party. They've got a great program going on right now. Type in the upc code from your Quaker Oats products (the barrels of Quick and Regular are standard issue at our house) and they'll donate oatmeal to kids in need.
You can see more party pics on my flickr page.

Yay Isabel!!
WAY better than my impromptu obama cupcakes...thanks for sharing.
Greg and I are really wanting some of those cupcakes, yum!
i heart america too... at least now, again, for the first time in eight years!!! ;O)
those cupcakes look delish! it was showing from 2 am here in nz! lol.
oh please tell me its not true!! Its like finding out that one of your favorite celeberties is a democrat. Even though I did not vote for him, I will support Obama, bc he is our president, and that is how it should be! I just hope that you didnt make those cupcakes! hahaha!
What a great idea! I wish I'd seen this last week. I watched the Inauguration with my children, hoping that one day they will look back and say, " I remember that day! I was there..." Thank you for sharing,
Nathalie

I, too had my children watch the inauguration (though only one is a US citizen :) just so they would one day look back and say, "I remember!"
On a more shallow note - your hostess has the most amazing rug (the one where she's signing the papers) :)
Hiya! It's Isabel here.
First of all, thank you Gabrielle and Ben Blair for sharing this lovely and historic event with me and my friends.
Thank you Amie (Mamma Loves) for the congrats. Yay for me! This was a big deal.
Anonymous 2, Gabrielle never mentioned whether or not she was a Democrat. Yesterday was historic and important for reasons beyond partisanship. There were many reasons to celebrate for many different people. Hooray for that! ;)
DolceDreams, in the future, you can refer to our post where we have an easy to access printout. Maybe 2013? 4th of July?

Zeynep: I bought that rug over 4 years ago. It's a David Hicks print for Stark Carpet. Definitely an investment piece! :)
Lastly, Gabrielle, thank you for mentioning the very important Start with Substance program.
Isabel
Hi Gabrielle- it was so great to meet you (and Ben Blair) in person. Love the pix you took. Isabel, you are an awesome hostess- thanks for including me in this historic day (for America and for you)! And my kids say thanks for the cupcakes. :-)
Joanna
soo much cuteness!
Oh, I wish i lived in by you.(or actually knew you...that would be better) This party looks great! I kept my kids home to watch the changing of power. It was amazing!
Congrats isabel. What a day for you!
and anonymous poster (second) you should come out of lurkdom.
I heart America too. I'm not excited about the new direction it's taking. "Hope" and "change" are nice words, but hope can be empty and not all change is good. Cute cupcakes nonetheless.
SO COOL.
Was so great to share that incredible day with you and Ben Blair and co. I love thinking that you will all be now forever woven in the fabric of one of my most imporant memories forever.
