HSM3

Friday night we took the 3 oldest kids to the opening night of High School Musical 3. The theater was packed with groups of tweens and their parents. And the audience was loud and high energy — with lots of eeeewww grosssss exclamations during the (one) kiss and lots of singing along. It was awesome. Go Wildcats!

For a little while we were unsure if we could make a Friday night showing, so we toyed with the idea of surprising the kids by getting them out of school early and taking them to a matinee. The Friday night thing ended up working out just fine, but now I'm obsessed with the mid-day movie idea.

Can you imagine how happy your kids would be to get pulled out of school unexpectedly just for fun? To see whatever good kid-movie is showing and eat lots of popcorn and candy? I am determined to do this during a boring, gloomy day in November...

Can I be your daughter? Will you pull me out of work on a gloomy November afternoon for a movie?!

Pulling the kids out of school for a surprise movie day is a fabulous idea. We all need a dose of spontaneity and rebellion every once in awhile!

I have always looked forward to pulling my kids out of school unexpectedly for a fun event because my parents came and picked us up from school one day to take us to the circus and it is for sure one of my all time favorite memories. It made me look at my parents very differently and it was a fun bonding experience for our family.

My girls are out of school at 12:20 on Fridays, so we made a 1:00 showing! We loved it (momma especially).

My dad once took my brother and I out of school to see The Empire Strikes Back and it was the best ever. We rode the bus downtown, he bought us a large popcorn (instead of my mom smuggling in her homemade popcorn) and a rootbeer each. We really thought we'd died and gone to heaven. Thanks for reminding me of that day.

i got pulled out of school in fifth grade to go to disneyland. but we lived in anaheim, so it wasn't like a huge roadtrip or anything like that. regardless, it was very cool. i'm totally doing that when my kids are older. it just doesn't have the same effect when it's just preschool they are getting pulled out of, does it?

I surprised my kids and pulled them out to see a live Alvin and the Chipmunks concert. They thought that was pretty cool!

What a great idea--one of those things your kids will look back on their whole lives. I'm doing that too!

I did pull my jr. high aged boys out of school for the first showing of School of Rock. It is still one of our favorite memories and of course we can all quote the show.

We had cousins in town this past weekend and I gleefully seized it as an excuse to get my little ones out of school early on Friday and see HSM3 - right in the middle of the day. It was awesome. (although I found myself wondering if the other poor Wildcats are getting a little sick of singing about Troy & Gabriella all the time)

Even though I am an elementary school teacher and I write a blog about ways for parents to help their kids at home (eensies.com), I am all for kids playing hooky once in a while. Especially when it means a fun, bonding time for families. What lucky kids you have!
