Ask Design Mom Week: Cradle Bedding
Ask Design Mom Question:
Gabrielle, in your travels online or in boutiques have you ever come across bedding for a cradle? I see anything and everything for cribs, but not a cradle or bassinet!! I'm on a desperate search for something beautiful and stylish, and if it could be organic, that would be fabulous. If anything comes to mind, please let me know! — Stephanie
Design Mom Answer:
You're absolutely right Stephanie! There are dozens of excellent options for crib bedding, but cradle bedding can be hard to find. I'm going to go search some of my best sources and see what I can find. In the meantime, I'll ask Design Mom Readers to chime in with their favorite sources.
And I should also mention, when I was faced with the same problem for our bassinet, I picked out some beautiful fabric and hired a friend to sew a few sheets. (Yes, although I'm not any sort of impressive seamstress, I could have probably sewn these myself. But let's be honest, it would have been procrastinated for. ev. er. Hiring it out got it done.)
Cradle pictured by Leander — I love how it can hang from the ceiling.

Great Spam above.... right?
Anyway, I had/have the same issue. Since I am the same one that asked about the pantry solution, I figured I should chime in. You CAN buy crib bedding but it is usually ugly.Try googling Mini Crib bedding... I have a mini crib for our youngest (2 months) b/c she lives in our closet (they all do for the first few months) and there is not much selection for crib stuff. I ended up having someone sew some for me too...
There is an idea for a design mom reader.. I can't wait to see if any one has ideas. We have the same issue for Moses Baskets...
Here are some links I found just through googling it-
This website has a couple of them.
This one has more to look at.
Personally, I would also vote to get it custom made. Then you have the freedom of choosing the fabric and pattern you want, or if you have some motivation and a little sewing experience- you can totally do it yourself! They are suprisingly easy to make!
We ended up buying our cradle and bedding from Baby Bliss (New Zealand). I can't say enough wonderful things about their products. www.babybliss.co.nz/
I also hired a friend, you should check out: http://www.libbylanedesigns.com/
Give AnneMarie a call. She is the owner and has a real gift with choosing fabrics that go together to compliment your nursery. She can do ANYTHING you'd like, using the best materials and she is a true artist at what she creates. She doesn't show bassinet bedding on the site, but she can CUSTOMIZE anything...give her the dimensions and a month and you'll love your custom crib/bassinet bedding forever! I know I do. My little Molly has the "BlueBell" crib bedding and it's AD-OR-ABLE!!
Oh, I tried commenting earlier and blogger didn't like me. Thank you SO much for posting my question- I really hope others chime in because I just know there has to be something fabulous out there that won't require me to be all crafty myself! : )
Steph
I had the same problem when my little guy was born. He slept in a moses basket for the first three months and I ended up having a friend make something for me. I have since found these two designers:
www.cotcouture.com.au (for exquisite damask style linen, not sure if they ship to North America though) and
www.lambykins.com (for gorgeous merino wool knitted blankets. The bassinet blankets can later be used as a stroller blanket once baby grows out of the bassinet. They list North American stockists on their website.)
Hope you find something soon!
