Collapsible Reusable Grocery Bags
Part of being a Mother in 2008 means not being able to meet friends at the park without some discussion, minor or major, about reusable grocery bags. And I'm not even exaggerating at all. Grocery bags are a big topic. Huge.
So of course, my eyes are constantly peeled for the best bags to recommend. And it's true, I've already linked to several different types in previous posts. But today, I'm going to introduce two different versions that focus on the ability-to-become-small as one of their chief aspects.
First Baggu. It's a great website with great photography. So you should probably check it out just for that. The bags are sturdy, generously proportioned (they hold the equivalent of 2-3 grocery bags), they sit flat when they are filled, and they come in great colors.
Next, meet Flip & Tumble. Featuring another smart site with a little video that shows you how fast it is to collapse these bags — easy as balling a pair of socks.
Flip & Tumble bags are so small that it's a cinch to keep one with you all the time. And in a pinch, the ball will double as entertainment for your toddler.

Yes! I adore the baggu bags, I bought 6 for me and 6 for my mom. I like that they're a really simple and sturdy design, no bells, no whistles, no logos, no patterns or weird fabrics. And they're multipurpose, which makes them indispensable. And I think we've all bought one of those ugly square grocery bags, branded with a specific store's logo, only to bring it, embarrassingly, to another store. eeps. And something about that fabric gives me the heebie jeebies...
baggu all the way!
ps. I've found they fold up real small, my only wish is that the storage pocket was sewn onto the bag. Not a big deal tho, as I used some velcro to attach it to the inside bottom of mine when it's in use. If you do this, just make sure the soft and fuzzy side is attached to the carrying case so it doesn't scratch you when you pull it out of your bag/trunk/etc.
pps. It is quite funny how something simple like this REALLY DOES promote such long-winded conversation. lol
we love those baggu bags. i just bought a slew of them, and we're so obsessed that hubby recently drove back home from the grocery to get them after realizing they weren't in the car (which i'm sure negated any earth saving benefits of using the bags in the first place...oh well.)
I absolutley adore BAGGU! They make the most fantastic house warming gifts - birthday gifts and any other that you are giving!
I get asked at the grocery store all the time where I get them!!!!
I'm sold! I just bought 6!
These are lovely!
Well, I just bought some at Trader Joe's, but these are too cute to pass up!
Baggu bags are great! I keep one in every tote I use and in my car glove box. So "toteable" and great colors. I use them for everything!
Thank you so much for this post. My wife and I have been looking for good re-usable bags. My wife made one, and we saw some at a local grocery store but it just didn't look very sturdy. We will definitely look into these. Thanks!
They look great, but is it hard to fold up and stick back in the bag after each use? I want to purchase a few of the baggu bags, but wanted some feed back on this.
Thank you,
Hannah R.
The other day at Walmart the girl in front of me whipped out a Baggu shopping bag. I could not beleive how small it was and how big it got. Of course I had to ask her what brand it was- so easy to fit in your handbag at all times. Another funny thing pre-talk about resuable shopping bag days I was watching Home Improvement on Nick at Night and they were unloading their groceries from canvas re-usable totes.
We love reusable market bags! These both look to be so much more fun than our Albertsons bags.
I do really like the Baggu reusable bags. The market for this item is expanding very quickly and the prices seem to vary. I would love to see more prints.
Why not make your own?!! They are so easy to sew and you can customize them to suit your favorite colors/themes, etc. I found this free pattern (almost the same as the baggu bags, with built-in pocket/wrap included) for the "Charlie" shopping bag at http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/show/261. To be even more earth friendly, why not make some of these bags out of an old skirt, sheet, curtains, etc.?
fantastic! I love this!
thank you!

These are a great idea! I have bought the store logo ones and they are bigger but, I always forget them. It would be great just to keep them in my purse. And I love the colors. Gonna go check them out!
Thanks.
I so wish everyone would use reusable bags! We have had the ACME workhorse ones for years and LOVE them - they're so strong...we've given them to all our fam and friends!http://www.reusablebags.com/store/acme-bags™-workhorse-style-1500-p-1.html?osCsid=af83f85a385afbd5ece63b82c8a9a9c3
Great post!
These bags are great. I am on board with the whole fabric grocery bag thing, I just always forget to take them in the store with me. I could use some collapsible bags that can fit in my regular purse. Thanks for the heads up!
Love the baggu bag. My sister just bought me one, and I am ready for more. Always handy in your purse, for more than just groceries.
I'm willing to bet that no one at my local grocery store has ever seen a reusable bag!
I like these though. I really need to get something like this becuase if nothing else, I've run out of things to do with the paper and plastic ones.
We've been using Envirosax bags that come in a carrying bag of 5 (but I always keep one in my purse because it's so small). I'm definitely going to check out Flip & Tumble, though--it'd be nice not to have to take so much re-rolling time after the bags are unpacked at home!
I really like the Chico Bags - they stuff easily into the built-in stuff sack and have a handy little clip.
Sturdy, very light weight and easily fits in your purse, diaper bag, etc.
And they are cheap - $5. We bought a bunch from a preschool fundraiser and have given them out as gifts. According to the website, you can do fundraisers with them for 50% of the profit. SOOOO much better than making people buy chocolate, cookie dough, wrapping paper, etc.!!

I am a Baggu junkie. I have 12 (!) and use them all. They are simply the best.
I love the Baggus too! Very easy to fold them up and pop into their carry bag. I usually stuff 2 of them into one pouch, actually. I have 3, but for a full cart of groceries, 6 would probably be the right number to get. Also great for library books, wet swim clothes, or any time you just can't squish one more thing into your purse/backpack.
Oooh, I use my flip and tumble all the time!
I use TuckerBags mainly for the extra pockets. They also tuck back into a nice small pouch, just no folding.
