Ask Design Mom: Spa Birthday Party

Ask-Design-Mom-Question:

Hello Gabrielle. I have a passion for throwing parties. I've been asked to plan a birthday party for my god-daughter who will be turning 8 this month. The theme is "spa". I've been online to find creative ways to decorate a backyard. Do have some suggestions or know of any links that I could go to to get ideas. Thanks, Party Diva

Answer:
A spa party sounds delightful! Martha Stewart Kids featured a Spa Slumber Party back in 2004. It was darling and I've had it mentally filed away in case one of my kids is interested at some point. Luckily, Martha has a description online here. Lots of cute ideas to spark your own!

My friend recently had a "Rocky Road" Pedicure at a day spa. They used mini-marshmallows as toe separators and she dined on Rocky Road Ice Cream while her tootsies were pampered. I thought it was a great idea for a teen/girls sleepover. If you had some chocolate scented lotion that would be cool!

A few suggestions: Use basic flip flops in bright colors as part of the decorations. Present each girl with a pair of her own personalized flip flops or as an activity, have each girl decorate and personalize her own with jewels, beads, ribbon, etc.
You may also use bottles of bright colored nail polish as part of the decorations. Serve Tropical Smoothies with pineapple wedges and fresh strawberries as garnish... also the little umbrellas in any beverage are a hit with 8 year olds.
