The Unique Toddler's Bedroom — by Guest Mom Lindsey Johnson
My Lilly is a very unique little girl. Her interests are varied and wonderful and we embrace all of it. We call her "Lilly Livingston" because she is a born naturalist. Nothing delights her more than rocks, sticks, bugs, animals, and water. (Except maybe cars and airplanes.)
I felt inspired after reading this post by Design Mom a few weeks ago.
Here are a few things I'm planning on or have been using to decorate Lilly's room in order to celebrate my special little girl and her interests.
1. These glass jars can be found at The Container Store. I filled them with some polished rocks Lilly got from her Papa and some sticks we collected while playing outside one day.
2. I bought this at TJMaxx awhile back, but I cannot find a source online for it. I love it. It's supposed to be a lap quilt, but it's the perfect size for a toddler bed.
3. The hand tinted lithographs below are from an old encyclopedia my husband inherited when some family members moved away. It was over 150 years old and falling apart. We carefully removed the lithographs so we could frame them and mount them on the wall.
The Butterfly and Bird Lithographs are by L. Prang and Co., Boston, and the Flower Lithograph is for Tiffany & Co. by the American Lithographs Co., NY.
4. A dear friend gave me this antique rocking chair when I was pregnant with Lilly. We still rock in it (at her request). I love the gold detailing along the top and the seat of the chair.
5. I also want to fill her room with old, collectible children's books. (Another work in progress.) We've acquired a few old A.A. Milne books and some others.
I found this book at a tag sale a few years ago.
She adores cars. Those books, as I find them, will be placed on a lovely shelf, far above the reach of little fingers holding crayons.
6. I still need to find a toy box to accommodate the growing number of toys. (And a bigger apartment, for that matter.)
I really love the idea of creating a home that displays who you are. I would hope if you came to visit, you could look around at our books and our mementos and the pictures on the wall and see who we are — just look past the dirty dishes, the Cheerios crushed into floor, and our hand-me-down furniture—although those things say a lot, too.

Love it all, the book really does say "Lilly" to me. Those lithographs are beautiful, I really love what you have done.
How beautiful. I saw that quilt at TJ... it's lovely. They have been getting better and better stuff it seems. My sister recently bought a beautifully made quilt in a pale spring blue for $40 and she was able to re-do her bedroom for about $160 total with new sheets, bedskirt, shams. It's so pretty!
I love your paint color--what is it?
I have that quilt from TJMAxx, in a different pattern.... I love it! It is so cozy and pretty.
What a great room that you have put lots of thought into. I am very inspired
I love the choices you've made for Lilly's room. Really well done.

SO cool Linds. Lilly is so funny I love that she loves rocks and sticks. I love in that poem that her Papa wrote about how she loves pebbles and sticks. So so adorable. Great post.
Actually the lithographs are from a two volume encyclopeadic dictionary. It was about a hundred years old, not 150.
-Informed Librarian.
i love that photo of her!
Noted, Informed Librarian. I wish you would have told me that last night!
Thanks for your comments!
I just went back to TJ Maxx today and bought some new stuff for MY room!
The paint color is called "Shagreen" and it's a Martha Stewart color that was matched by Benjamin Moore.
lindsey, i absolutely LOVE all of your ideas for lilly's room. if and when we ever move into a house, i plan on doing that to ava and max's rooms. making them more their unique style. ava's room is green too! and i really love those quilts. and the rocking chair. and the lithographs. thanks for cute inspiration!
i loved that post too and have since been planning the decor scheme of our next dwellin to be energetic, fun with a silly twist. we are leaving behind everything we don't love so we have no choice but to start fresh with things we love.
i love that book!!!
All of it is so wonderful. I have been looking for special botannical and butterfly prints for my daughter's room. I've found some, but would love to know if anyone has a can't miss source for finding more.
Paige--
I found this source online last night, I just need to dig through my history and see if I can find it again. You can also search for "lithograph" and then narrow your search. You could even try looking for L. Prang--that's what I did, I believe that brought up the link I'm talking about.....when I find it, I'll post it here in the comments.
Love the lithographs... lucky you, inheriting those! My mother has the same rocker except it is cherry wood instead of black. It was my grandmother's and is a family favorite. What a nice piece for your little one's room! Such lovely and thoughtful choices.
