Clothes — by Guest Mom Rebecca Bingham
Let’s kick off this week with fashion, shall we?
I don’t pretend to be the height of fashion. I am not wearing Mom Jeans or anything like that, but I am not exactly the poster child for Anthropologie either. I also have curves. Big ones. It can be a challenge to find clothes that will stand up to the numerous washings, flatter my body type and help me look fashionable and hip but also age appropriate. They also can’t cost eleventy million dollars. Otherwise when my son paints them with Easter Egg dye, I will cry. I am pretty sure that I am not the only Design Mom reader with the same challenge. Am I?
Enter Boden. Have you discovered this yet? This was a happy accident. I am a huge fan of catalogues. I love, love, love them. Apparently, when you order things from catalogues you get put on a list and then you get MORE catalogues. Mostly they are things that I would never buy and they go in the pile for Lulu to cut up and make artwork out of. Occasionally you get a gem. One special day, the Boden book showed up at my door. It only took about three pages to know that I had a new best friend.
Doesn’t every woman want the perfect shirt?
This dress?
Or this coat?
Don’t forget this
This,
Or this.
And I didn’t even get to the shoes and handbags yet. I don’t know who this Johnny Boden is or why he makes such awesome clothes, but I want to invite him over for dinner and offer to baby-sit his perfectly dressed kids. Does any one else have catalogue that you love? Any other secret gems out there?

The Boden swimsuits are excellent too!
oh my GOD!!! I am not kidding when I tell you that you have improved my life in a big big way. I am TALL and have curves, and can't find clothes that are pretty and fashionable and FIT. Can't believe I've never seen this site before... already have 3 things in my shopping cart!
thank you thank you!!
p.s. a good plus-size resource is B and Lu... small selection, but hip. http://www.bandlu.com/
Thank you!!! Also check out JJill for tall ladies w/ curves....
I love Boden! My fav plus-size place is Elisabeth.com. They have great sales and the clothes are stylish, plus well made and don't fall apart or shrink after the first washing.
I just discovered My Shape last week. I haven't ordered anything yet, but the cool thing about it is you put all your measurements in your profile and answer a few questions to find out your shape. Then you browse their selection to find clothes that will flatter your body. They have the greatest clothes too.
I love Boden, they often have free shipping or some other promotion going on. They also have great kids clothing and menswear. And best of all, when you call to order, you get to speak to people with cool British accents!
My curves and my wallet thank you!
You have such great taste, Bek. The green skirt and the polka-dot dress are both going on my wishlist.
Hey Bek! That polka dot dress is to die for, maybe I can sew something like it!
Tina...you totally could sew that. I would have to beg you to sew it for me... :-)
The kids stuff is AWESOME (that is going to be part of tomorrows blog...) and my daughter manages to look "cool" but I don't think she looks too slutty. Everyone wins.
I fit in a weird size bracket..I am tall and busty w/ generous hips, but I have a waist. Sometimes the largers sizes in regular stores are not big enough in the bust, but the let me show off my waist, or the other sizes in the "plus" size stores are too big in the waist or too short in the the lenght. I swear by JJill (and now Boden). I am SO excited to check out these new places. Any place that lets you put in measurements is my kind of place.
Thanks ladies!!!
i have that first dress pictured and it's awesome. suprisingly flattering for a typically clingy fabric like jersey knit.
Bek - Thank you Thank you Thank you! I have to go now and place my order. DARLING!
Tina, I will give you a million dollars if you actually sew that dress. (and, thanks, shauna!)
Becca, you should feature that dress you wore to your sister-in-law's wedding: to DIE for!
WOW! I just checked out MyShape.com and it is brilliant! For those of us who can't afford a personal tailor/dresser, this is the place to start shopping!
So great! Thank you!
I'm now in love with Boden. Great find!!!
I love that polka-dot dress and that adorable trench! I will check out that site. Thanks!
Well, I drool over Boden as well as JJill and Garnet Hill!
Hi Bek!
Got any ideas on how to make scrubs look hot? Besides having McDreamy wear them.....
bek,
i love your blog. You amaze me. You are so talented, have a heart of gold, and really 'with it'. You really inspire me, and i hope one day i can do a bit of good in the world like you. Now i am going to check out more of the clothes you showed!
heidi, alberta Canada
J. Marco is one I love ... if you are slightly uninspired and fashion impaired like me (although I am not sure if any of you ladies are) they do entire outfits. I can rarely afford them but they give me a lot of great ideas.
