My Famous Sister-In-Law
My sister-in-law, Margaret Blair Young, was featured with her co-author Darius Gray, in a PBS segment. It's all about their documentary, Nobody Knows — The Untold Story of Black Mormons. Fascinating stuff. If you're extra-curious about the topic, Margaret and Darius also wrote a historical trilogy on the topic.
And Margaret is fabulous in the interview. So is Darius.
(Fair warning: it's a full 1/2 hour program.)

I watched the whole interview, riveting information. I'd love to see the documentary.
Thanks!
My husband has spent time with Darius and is always touched by what a wonderful, humble man he is. Hooray for all those who worked on this project!!
thank you for sharing this video here and for adding your voice too ;) what a fabulous family you have
Hey, Margaret Young is your sister-in-law? I took creative writing classes from her--and Shakespeare from her husband! Darius actually came and spoke to our class, and I think at that time she was en route to these books. Mucho congratulations to her.
Please tell her that Erin Sanders says hi--I was in her class winter (I think) of 2002 (I think). I loved her class. Lucky you to be related!
Ditto what Erin said: I also took a creative writing class from Margaret Young, and she is a great, great lady. So inspiring and encouraging.
Darius Gray also came and spoke to our class with Sis. Young about their project and opened my mind to a lot of things I had yet to consider as a young college student.
I love Margaret Young!! I only know her from the blogs. Wow, you are related to the coolest people!!
The interview was great--thanks so much for posting this link. I'm ashamed to admit how completely ignorant I am on this important topic. I look forward to watching the documentary!
This is such a terrific film. Congratulations to Margaret and Darius.
I don't know why I never put two and two together to realize you and Margaret had a connection. I too am one of her past adoring students. I loved her creative writing class. It was like this cozy place to go to when I was living so far from home. Yay for her.
It's true, you have one fascinating family (on both sides!). How did so much creativity get channeled to your family line? Jealous, jealous, jealous.....
What a great project and interview! Thanks for the information!
how did i never make that connection?! i've posted with margaret on other blogs for a few years, now. how fun! can someone in your family adopt me, please?
That was amazing! I'm so glad that you posted this. It was really eye opening and answered a lot of my concerns and questions about this issue with the church. I can't wait to see the film.
What an amazing family you have! I absolutely loved her answer, about believing we are all allowed to make mistakes. I don't think most people are brave enough to say things like that.
I believe I took a class from her.
Way to go!
IS there anyone in your family who is not famous in some way or another? Sheesh!
This is incredible work. I love learning stuff like this!
Thank you for including this clip. Darius was a guest teacher of mine way back at BYU in 1996 and I loved him. He is a true pioneer.
The documentary is a must see! It will give you a chance to walk in someone else's shoes...
Thank you so much for posting this interview. They were both amazing & I can't wait to watch the documentary in October. Your blog is amazing as well....always love all the creative & most exciting things you post!
