Nie Nie's Story in the New York Times

Wonderful news! The New York Times picked up Stephanie's story. It's a beautiful article all about the real (and positive) effects of virtual blogging relationships. Written by Alex Williams. You can find it online here.

Note: you can still find the list of auctions here — and there are still a few active ones! For those of you who are curious, as the NYTimes article mentions, it looks like the combined efforts of all the auctions and fundraising offers are set to raise $100,000. Imagine that. Go bloggers, go! You've done a very good thing.

Want to feel even more internet hugs and kisses? Help out another family in need — picture going into an emergency c-section, developing an infection which requires having both legs and one arm amputated. Then. Losing your sight. That's what's happening to Carol Decker right this minute.

You can also visit Five Minutes for Mom to find out about their life-affirming, hope-giving new feature: Blogs Can Change Lives.

In other news. The rain here is so dramatic tonight. I'm loving it. And listening for the basement sump pump.

Oh, the RAIN. In Connecticut, it has been raining for three hours, HARD. I'm sure it's similar in New York. We live on a hill, so all the water flows from 20 feet above our front door...all the way down to the lake, 50 feet out our back door. Hehe...we're listening to our 30-year old home's "character" dripping into the fireplace and through one of the windows in our sunroom.

I do love the rain, though. :-)

That's so cool (about the article not that your basement might be flooding). I just bought today's NYT in hopes that the Boston Edition will carry the article. If not, I'll print it off the web. It was a really nice article.

I tried emailing you, but it bounced.
I wanted to let you know that I have started an online auction for Stephanie at Today's Creative Blog.

i saw this article this morning and it made me smile. what a wonderful tribute to the power of the blogging community. Gabby, you did an amazing thing. You took all the principles of grassroots fundraising and responsibility to one's community that so many of us practice in our lives and applied it to the greatest community of all. you should be very proud.

i think this can be the model for large scale giving. you rock.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention about the Deckers.

What a sad story. It sounds like they are supported and loved, but it is just so tragic.

They have lovely items on their auction - so thank you for noting it.
