Handmade, Papered, Wooden Blocks

I like these
pretty wood blocks, handmade by Hiccup, Inc, with names like Mellow, Stella Ruby, Sugared and Periphery. They're eye-catching enough that I wouldn't mind if they were left out. (And no doubt they would be left out on many, many days.) The product description says they were a featured project on the Martha Show — I apparently missed that one. I wonder if they're hard to make?

Available at Happy Chickadee.

I saw the Martha segment and have used her technique to make lots and lots of crafts around my house. They are really, really easy to make!

1. find wooden blocks
2. find Basic Grey papers with the same names posted (check scrapbooking section of craft store)
3. glue papers to wooden blocks
4. use sandpaper nail file to smooth edges of papers
5. apply sealant to the outside of the block.
the end. :)

Okay. I am an avid reader and I am delurking. :) Thanks for such a wonderful blog.

This project seems easy enough. The trick would be finding the wood blocks for a good price.

Ditto anonymous! And I think the blank blocks are readily available at scrapbooking and craft stores.

They *are* really cute and definitely beat having more molded plastic scattered about!

i saw this segment, too. they did look rather easy to make. the creator used 4x4 fence posts cut down. she said it was way cheaper than buying premade blocks. but then she makes them in bulk, . . .

also, she dabbed a bit of brown or black paint on the cut edges of the paper before she sealed them.

I made these for a friend and they turned out great. You can buy the blocks for a pretty good price if you search online for wholesale wood companies.

Anyone have suggestions for non-toxic adhesive or glue to make them with? Seems like they would end up in little mouths on occasion :)

These are really nice. I'm wondering if this particular brand is considered "green"? They just look it, you know? And I'm always on the lookout for good green products. Thanks for sharing.

They are extremely easy to make. Proven by the fact that I have made them. (I am somewhat shall we say, craft-impaired).

We made them at a Super Saturday although ours were for decorative purposes,I see no reason why they couldn't be played with.

We also drilled holes in some of them and stuck some medium gauge wire in the hole, bent it into a loop at the top and voila-Christmas card/photo/random piece of paper holder.

Some of them had letters (so you could spell out words-again for decorative/holiday/occasion purposes). I was very proud of them last Christmas..it marked the first super Saturday project ever completed in my lifetime.

I am quite craft-savy my self, and even I was about to order these gorgeous baby blocks off of the Etsy website. Then as I read about them, I figured that they were probably very easy to make. I am sooo looking forward to the task. I absolutely love them! Anyone have any sites where to buy the blocks from?
