What I Did on Summer Vacation
In addition to huge amounts of time at the pool and hanging out with cousins, the three highlights of our trip so far:
1) Spending a day in the mountains at Solitude Ski Resort. This was my first visit to Solitude. It's gorgeous. For an old ski resort, the whole place feels new and clean and really lovely. They've got a whole European village vibe going on and it works. Dinner at Creekside was delicious.
2) Seeing the Plein Air Painting Festival at Thanksgiving Point. 70 different painters/sculptors were set-up through out the gardens. My kids loved seeing this. Asking about the artist's palettes. Determining whether they were working in oils or watercolors. And the gardens are spectacular.
3) Seeing my kids pet a boa constrictor at the Reptile Show at the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum. I also loved learning this little factoid while there: There was turtle found by Charles Darwin in 1835 that was estimated to be 15 or 20 years old at the time. That same turtle lived until last year.
I'm crossing my fingers that week 2 of vacation will be just as fun.

That's a great photo of Thanksgiving Point.
Thanksgiving Point is so lovely. My sister works in a building right next to it. I can't imagine being able to see the pretty flowers everyday.
Hooray for vacation!!
I worked at the Bean Museum in college and just took my little guy there for the first time recently. If you can get past the fact that all the dead animals are a tiny bit creepy, it's a great place to take the kids!
What? You're in town and you didn't let us know so we could host one of our famous blogger lunches in your honor? (OK, it does sound like it's a family vacation, but we're family, right? *wink*)
We call the Bean Museum the Dead Zoo. The kids love it! Did you see the two-headed snake?
My brother, Joseph Alleman, was one of the Plein Air artist. Cool that you got to be there.
I love Solitude! It's gorgeous up there! Glad to hear you're having a great time!
Beautiful pictures!
