Book of the Week: A Child's Christmas in Wales
A Child's Christmas in Wales, by Dylan Thomas, is another not-new Christmas book. And I love it so much. My kids are just getting old enough to love it too. Great details and beautiful language — it's easy to see your own childhood holidays reflected. Hearing it totally makes me want to curl up with something cozy to drink.
In high school, I was given an audio version, read by the author, as a gift. It was excellent and I fell in love and have made it a part of my Christmas season ever since. I have been looking for a book format of the story and there are several beautifully illustrated versions (see here or here), but there was something about this one that is especially appealing to me.
I'm also tagging on an Ask-Design-Mom question:
I love to give and receive great children's books. I have a (my first) one-year old this year and am wondering what are some fun Christmas books for smaller kids? Any suggestions? Thanks, Allison
Allison, thank you for your question. I went straight to my Christmas books and am embarrassed to say that I don't really have much of anything for the under 2 set. So I have two suggestions:
1) Go ahead and start building a Christmas library knowing some of the books won't be fully enjoyed until your toddler is older.
2) If you really want something that your 1-year-old can get his hands on, I would pick up something at the bookstore that's Christmas themed and in board book format, like this one, this one, this one or this one.
Smart and Clever Readers, if you have favorite Christmas books appropriate for babies, please chime in!

My sister-in-law recently gave me an I Spy Christmas board book. Although my 1 year old doesn't quite "spy" everything, it's user friendly and brings Christmas cheer.
I love Christmas in the Manger by Nola Buck and Felicia Bond, it's really sweet. It makes me get a little teary- eyed. Even though it's a board book, my kids of all ages love it too.
i love finding christmas carol books for my little ones. we have Frosty, Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls and Santa Claus Is COmin' to Town...so much fun! Also love love love Dream Snow by Eric Carle...great for little readers!
Lizzy, Maude brought home Dreamy Snow from the library yesterday and Oscar won't put it down. A definite hit!
Dream Show is also our favorite - and the music that plays at the end has lasted for years!

We bought our son, who is 14 months a book which I believe is called "Razzle Dazzle Christmas." It has basic, simple illustrations, but each picture has a sparkly shiny bit that he loves to look at
Snowmen at Night is really cute. There's also a Snowmen at Christmas book, but I like that Snowmen at Night is a board book for younger children. They're both great, though.
