Holiday Dress Preview
Okay. So I'm not ready even a little bit to start thinking about Christmas dresses. But. I was out and about last week and I couldn't help but notice that the stores had their holiday lines on display — and of course I had to peek. My super-quick analysis of the three stores I dropped into:
Gymboree didn't have anything that caught my eye.
Children's Place sometimes embellishes more than I can handle, but they have a silver party skirt that I love. (I didn't see it in the store, but the website offers it in cardinal red as well.) For a top to go with it, I think I would search elsewhere, I didn't like the Children's Place options.
I also noticed this dress in red and black — I love the simple classic lines, the scallop on the collar and I think the ruffle peeking out from the bottom is delightful. In sizes 12 mos to 4T.
My favorite dress was at CrewCuts. This dress is lovely. Truly lovely. But seriously, $178 for a child's dress? And in my case, times it by three daughters? Ummm. Not today.

GAH! $178 for a kids dress?!?!?! Crazy...I like the red velvet-y looking one from Children's Place though. Cute and simple.
I've been eying a few at Janie and Jack. And there's one at Crew Cuts--the white silk dress with the brown or black sash. It's not very Christmas-y, but I love it.
I hear you about Childrens Place, they always seem nice in the pictures, but in real life look like a little bit too much.
I just used my gymbucks to outfit all three kids (2 girls and a boy) for 86$. Not bad. Gap kids has a really cute black cardigan that would look great with any skirt and they also have a sweet red tartan skirt. Basic, but sweet.
I love that these aren't too grown up. So cute! I hope I have a girl this time around...
Darling dresses, I can't wait to find something for my daughter. What about boys clothes? They always seem to be the same.
I know what you mean about Crew cuts. Thanks for actually saying it. Hello? If you have more than one child, can you actually afford that dress?! It is goregeous, though.
I also love you took a brand like Children's Place (affordable, but occasionally nice pieces) and highlighted the best of. *That's* what I want to hear from a Design Mom!!
They have some beautiful dresses and little man outfits at Jane and Jack. I don't remember how big there sizes are though.

Cute dresses! I also love the plaid $178 dress you highlighted. You know, it doesn't look that hard to sew. I'm sure you could make all three for much less than $178! Check out the New Look or Burda patterns and maybe combine a few of them and then just make up the belt and cover the buttons. Love the plaid cut on the bias for the skirt. Okay, now I'm inspired. Maybe I'll have to sew those dresses for my three girls! Any favorite fabric stores in NYC? I'd love to hear which ones you recommend (good prices + great/interesting selections).
GORGEOUS plaid dress, but I wouldn't even spend $178 on one holiday dress for my ONE daughter! heehee
that bottom dress is beautiful...I wish they made it in my size.
definitely loving the plaid dress! with 3 daughters of my own . . . there's now way!!!
OMG. What is wrong with me...I was loving those mullet men.
So love your site! Melissa N. told me about her friend in NY(you) and so glad she did. I'm her nieghbor and i have been thinking about holiday dresses for months now. I have two girls that will be 5 months and 23 months at Christmas. I'm having a hard time finding matching in those ages without the outfits being something i just want to light on fire! How's that for some pre-holiday cheer! Thamks for the wonderful taste you have!~Corrine
If you have a Gymboree Outlet in your area check it out!!! They are carrying last years holiday attire, which I loved. And at good prices.
For adorable matching outfits try Hannah Andersson or Kelly's Kids. I have dressed my 7 and 2 year old girls in holiday outfits the past 2 years and have gotten rave reviews from everyone we see!
