Preparations — by Guest Mom Rachel Jones

Two months before my due date, lying on the operating table staring up at the bright lights, wasn’t necessarily what I had in mind when having my first little one. But, I don’t think anything can quite prepare you fully for what happens when you see your very own little tiny child born. Being a new mom, can be a scary thing, full of lots of surprises. So far, in my short 9 month journey I’ve come to learn:
1: I’m definitely not always the one in charge
2: ‘Dry clean only’ clothes just aren’t an option anymore (at least for a while)
3: The extra baby weight doesn’t melt off magically and instantly like I hoped
4: Poop, is that poop raining from the ceiling or your backside? Will it ever stop?
5: Self-time daily to replenish my well is very important
6: It is okay for her to cry…well sometimes
7: There is no snooze button on this baby alarm clock
8: Always be prepared with burp cloths, and bottles wherever I go
9: Getting laundry done, has become a new accomplishment
10: She is only a baby once, I must cherish every moment

Unfortunately, I had to go into the hospital unexpectedly and without a thing, so here are a few things I would have liked to have in my hospital bag. *Note to future new mothers, you can never start preparing your bags too early.
1. Fortune Tootsies
2. Baby Owner's Starter Kit 3. Bojour Blanket 4. Marimekko
5. Mama Mio 6. Lady bug hat

I'm in my last month of pregnancy, really enjoyed your thoughts on preparing. Great stuff. I'm curious about those Fortune Tootsies, but the link doesn't seem to be working.
beautiful post! Welcome Rachel::
:)
Thank for the heads up, Erin. I just fixed the Tootsies link — it was a typo on my part.
I love the hospital bag ideas. That's a great idea. Your little one was a tiny one.
Wow!! I really liked your blog Rachel. Are all people from the Seattle area that cool?
Awww, excellent points on bveing a new mom...love your thoughts & ideas :)
I had to laugh at your "dry clean only" clothes not being an option anymore. I bought a new dress to wear to a friends wedding and didn't even think about the dry clean only part until I had spit up all over me. But at times like that - I just remind myself that she is worth it all!
I just love that polkadot onesie. Makes me want to have a daughter again.
what a fun list to include in a hospital bag. Coincidentally, I just started to pack my bag tonight, (I'm 33 weeks) and will definitely include my mama mio belly oil-- that stuff is awesome.
I LOVE Fortune Tootsies and have been placing them in all my baby gift baskets since discovering them! Great post!! :)
