Holiday Cookie Party

In the mood for a holiday get together? Here's an excellent and low-stress idea:

A smart friend of mine invites friends for a Cookie Exchange. Each guest brings about 2 dozen of one type of cookie — say, gingersnaps — and an empty container. After a light lunch and happy visiting, each guest gets to fill their empty container with a few of every kind of cookie. This makes for a pretty terrific party favor.

My family is especially good spirited about me getting away for a couple of hours when they know I'll return with yummy yummy baked goods.

Gingersnap recipe here.

A friend of mine--despite the lingering effects of radiation that ravaged her body during her fight against leukemia--cooks and bakes for an entire week this time of year to host a chili dinner and cookie exchange for our entire neighborhood.

I don't know how she does it, but, like everything else she does--remembering and recognizing everyone in the neighborhood's birthday, for example--it's a labor of love.

These kinds of events are a lot of fun--especially if you get to bring home the recipes as well as the cookies.

We do this every year. I love it. We have a few people who always bring the BEST cookies and we all rush to her container first.

We also have everyone either bring a copy of their recipie or submit it ahead of time and give a recipie book to everyone.

We are doing an appetizer party this year and doing the recipies ahead of time..... :-)

That's a great idea, I may just do it this year.
