Beautiful Toys

Speaking of all the really beautiful things out there. . .

Check out these lovely choices:

Bullseye YoYo set.
Set of 3 for $38
More than I want to spend for yo-yos. Even for 3 yo-yos. But if I consider them "art" then maybe I can justify them. So pretty. I want all three to sit in a bowl somewhere in my house.

Ugly Dolls (their name, not mine)
$20 each
Toys only a mother could love. And I'm a mother. I'm so charmed by these. Oscar doesn't love his stuffed rabbit, but I can imagine him attaching himself to one of these.

Magnetic Color Cubes
$28 for the set
My "builder" Ralph would really like these. If he could ever get them away from his mother.

Glockenspiel Man
$68
No words.

Everything part of Garnet Hill's 2006 Gift Collection.

A friend of mine did her own twist on the Ugly Dolls. She had her kids (10, 8, 5) do some sketches. . .she gave them some ideas then let them go for it. She made the patterns from their drawings, matching even the colors if she could, they turned out great and the kids love them.

Design Mom I have been silently admiring your blog for sometime...and am always loathe to comment because I am so style challenged in your world of beauty. But today's post made me remember a darling handpainted toy I purchased for my eldest child only to have her suck some of the paint off. It occured to me to test the paint for lead and sure enough...Anyway, moms just remember and beware that many of the gorgeous wood hand-painted toys are made in locales not strict about lead paint -- such toys are not great for kids still in the oral stage.

Those magnetic cubes are irresistable but my bet is that they will end up like my son's magnetix things (balls and rods) - all over the house with never enough in one place to actually build something. Sooo, I think they should have an age minimum of 20 years old.

There is an award-winning "Ugly Doll" card game that is supposed to be a lot of fun!
